Introducing Me

Hi everyone!

I know that I have an ‘About Me’ page that tells you a little about who I am, but I want to dig a little deeper than that.

On the date that I am writing this post, I am 21 years old. I’ve been married since I was 19 to an United States Army soldier. We are currently stationed in North Carolina and recently brought our first house.

As a housewife, I finally had the time to follow my dreams and write. So, in August of 2019 I decided to start planning out my debut novel. Things has been a roller coaster as I figure out there’s a lot more to writing a book than just putting words on a paper/screen. Though, it’s been a year and I haven’t gotten as far as I would have hoped, I’m so glad to be on this journey of becoming an author.

Like I said on my ‘About Me’ page, I am not a grammar guru. I’m not one of the greatest writers alive and I will never claim to be, but I can honestly say that writing is my passion.

When I was getting bullied in school I would get lost between the pages of books, imagining that I was the protagonist. I did everything I could to escape reality. My mom told me that she writes to escape it sometimes. It helped her get all of her thoughts out there on paper. So, I picked up a pen and followed suit. When I first started off, I would write small poems. They were horrible (like really terrible), but my parents encouraged me. Small poems turned into song lyrics. Song lyrics turned into short stories. From short stories, I tried to write a book on wattpad. It was a paranormal romance involving a vampire (Twilight Saga crazed era). I uploaded six chapters, very inconsistently I must say, before I completely stopped writing it. The title of the book was ‘Love Is Dangerous’ and it was horrendous. I officially deleted it off of wattpad last year. Though, I still have the chapters that I published and the draft of Chapter Seven. Rereading the chapters helps me see how far I came with my writings.

Sappy, cringey love stories has always been my thing, so it was no surprise that I ended up considering myself a romance writer. Watching my characters fall in love “slowly and then all at once” as I write makes my heart swell. I’m a hopeful romantic which causes my stories to have a good mix of cheesy/lovey dovey but coincidental scenes and actively trying to put work into the relationships.

I’m currently working on turning a short story I wrote for a contest into a novella (or just making it a longer short story) to be released before my actual debut novel. My debut novel will be a paranormal romance involving angels and demons. There’s also a contemporary romance that I outlined lightly and a series which I’m starting to add a little to now and then.

I’m adding this blog to my website to take you along on my journey of trying to become an author. I won’t promise to post every week because I’ll know I’ll break it. What I can promise is that as I hit milestones on the road of the journey, you guys will be the first to know. Along with that, I’m going to have some short reviews of indie authors’ books sprinkled throughout the blog.

You can expect me to be honest and open. I don’t want to hold back because I’d love to help someone else on this journey know that they’re not alone and we all have a few setbacks sometimes.

Annika K. Parker is an army housewife who's based in North Carolina. As a kid who got bullied, escaping reality between the pages of books was her favorite past time. It wasn't long before she started to write creatively. Now, with the help of coffee and wine, she's set out to make writing her career. She's hoping the characters, stories, and worlds she creates helps others as much as her favorite authors' did for her.

  1. Hello! You must really have a passion for writing and we start off a little bit rusty first and then when we practice and put our 100% in what we do, it becomes the most beautiful work even if it doesn’t seem like it. Also, you’re really pretty! I can’t wait to watch your blog grow! xx
